A Call for Action - The UN Security Council's Responsibility to Protect

Please sign this petition in solidarity with the Long March and Hunger Strike for Free Burma and Daw Aung San Suu Kyi.

In solidarity with the Long March and Hunger Strike campaign, I will echo this sincere cry for help. I am mortified as a concerned citizen to continuously read horror stories from Burma with little to no action that mobilizes aid that is needed since Senior General Than Shwe illegally raped the people of Burma from their legal right to elected leader Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and the National League for Democracy.

With the international community aware of this atrocity, for some unexplained reason simple actions, which could have made leaps and bounds for the people of Burma have been ignored. The AIDS epidemic in Burma is a threat to our modern day world within and outside Burma. Doctors Without Borders has clearly explained they cannot handle this problem alone, but they urgently need more help with Burma. There is a cancer growing in Burma because of Senior General Than Shwe's reign of terror. It is multiplying fast with issues of refugees from Burma being forced into a modern day exodus through malaria infested jungles to neighboring countries. Women and children as a result are being trafficked as sexual slaves. This is unacceptable.

It is clear that this predicament will get worse because of Burma's lacking education and fortified child soldiers. This is not only irresponsible to allow to continue, but also it is a threat to international security. When children are trained to use rape as a weapon of war, there is no telling what the future will hold. As a man who hopes for a future that will blossom with the ideals of the United Nations aspirations, I beg you to head the call which is Burma.

I herby stand by Desmond Tutu in full support for a UN Security Council Commission of Inquiry and a global arms embargo on Burma. Without heading this call, the UN Security Council is putting not only Burma, but also the international community in jeopardy. I recognize the reality that this world has many problems, but such tyranny and oppression as the case in Burma must not continue.

As the grandson of Jack Hellman, who escaped from Nazi occupied Germany by the Kindertransport, I encourage you to remember the past as a path to a brighter future. It is clear that Daw Aung San Suu Kyi invested some money from her Nobel Peace prize earnings to mobilize Prospect Burma. With the infant mortality rate rising and more child soldiers being forced to join the Junta, I hope you will help nurture Daw Aung San Suu Kyi's organization while she is incarcerated illegally.

As torture prevails in Burma's prisons, please hold Senior General Than Shwe and his fellow generals accountable for their crimes against humanity and to end this war on the citizens of Burma.
