What happens when a real, free, democratic election takes place under a fresh and legitimate constitution? I should have looked harder but I've not really seen addressed how Burma should handle the transition to democracy. With people hurt by crimes against humanity on such a scale and over many years, it would be surprising if there were not a massive call both within Burma and worldwide for retributive justice through some kind of tribunal.

Alternatively, maybe the South African example of peace and reconciliation is the right and best way forward, making a new start and setting a high humanitarian standard in the world. And maybe too that would be the quickest way of achieving a practical exit strategy for the Junta.
